Books as Therapy – How Reading Makes You Feel Better

Since the early 1900’s it has been known that reading books has the power to make the reader feel better. There is a novel to fix every problem you face, and personal drama and emotional upheaval, bringing health benefits as you are immerse yourself in a book such as relaxation, a reduction in stress, and feelings of calmness and happiness

 

Fiction in particular, enriches our lives and heightens our empathic responses. There is nothing more fulfilling and enjoyable than sitting down with a book which transports you, the reader, to another place, world and time, providing a connection with characters who are a part of the story.

 

Libraries provide access to classics and modern fiction in many genres. When you visit the library, ask the friendly staff to recommend a book or just browse the shelves. There is something in the library for everyone!
